As the range of computer applications continues to expand, so does the demand for computer scientists. Computer Science is an ever-changing discipline that studies the theory, design and implementation of computer applications and systems. Students will learn to use computing and information technology to help solve the problems that we face in business, science and society today and those that we will face tomorrow. The Honours Computer Science program at Carleton is organized into diverse streams so that students can develop a particular expertise. In addition to core courses in computer science, this stream includes courses on artificial intelligence, machine learning and neural networks. Transportation, finance, business, manufacturing and agriculture are being transformed by artificial intelligence and machine learning. LinkedIn witnessed a 190% increase from 2015 to 2017 in terms of skills required for AI-based jobs, and reports project 20 million jobs in artificial intelligence by 2023. Machine learning is also today’s highest-profile research area in computer science.
